Scuba instruction is easy!
This is the class structure while learning the basic open
water coarse. All sections must be completed for certification.
Section One
Purchase books and either rent or purchase video or CD Rom
Read book and watch video at your leisure at your home
Complete Knowledge Reviews in the book and have them for
class
Make note of any questions you may have for the instructor
during class time.
Section Two
Make arrangements (if you have not already) for a class
The class is designed to ensure the home study was completed
The class will be a review of the material learned
Mastery will be obtained for all knowledge review questions
during class time.
Class generally takes about 3 hours
Section Three
Make arrangements (if you have not already) for pool
(confined water) session
This is where you will learn the fundamentals of scuba
diving
Mastery will be achieved on 21 fundamentals during the 5
pool dives.
These dives can be broken up over 2 days or can be completed
in 1 day depending on your schedule
Section Four
Make arrangements (if you have not already) for open water
dives
These dives are made in fresh or salt water
These dives are used to put all the fundamentals you have
learned in the pool into actual diving scenarios
There are 4 dives which must be completed in at least 2 days
Section Five
Make arrangements (if you have not already) to take your
written test
The written test can be completed any time between the class
and receiving your certification card
Take a picture for your PIC card which is your non-expiring
scuba certification card
These sections can be combined or spread out in different
ways. If you are tight on time, you could do the class in the morning,
pool session 1-3 in the late morning, then open water dives 1 and 2 in the
afternoon. The next day, finish class, complete pool dives 4 and 5
then open water dives 3 and 4 in the afternoon. Or you could spread it
out. Class on day 1. Pool sessions 1-5 on day 2. Open
water dives 1 and 2 on day 3. Open water dives 3 and 4 on day 4.
There are many more combinations available. Of course, all scheduling
is weather dependant. We can not control the weather or other
circumstances beyond our control and there is sometimes variables which
effect the time line of a class.
